"New Zealand electric racecar developer Greenstage is close to finishing an open source project called 'Tumanako,' which would allow owners of electric cars and motorcycles to tweak the code in their vehicles. Electric vehicle gearheads grouse about proprietary code that keeps current, torque and speed within very conservative limits. 'In racing, you need the system to push all those parameters to the limits. You only need the system to survive until just past the finish line,' says Bill Dube, the owner of the record-setting KillaCycle. Open source code could also be used to build any type of electric vehicle, from cars and submarines to motor-launched aerial gliders, from scratch. It's like Linux for your Chevy Volt."
The new UI for adding users lacks the "encrypted home diretcory" option.
OpenTBS is a plug-in for the TinyButStrong Template Engine.
TinyButStrong is a PHP Template Engine which has special template syntax and allows you to design templates in their natural editing tools. But it normally works only for Text files, including XML and HTML.
With TinyButStrong and its plug-in OpenTBS, you can use the template engine to merge OpenOffice documents and Ms Office documents with lot of facilities. All OpenDocument Format (ODF) and Office Open XML (OOXML) can be merged with OpenTBS, and also XPS files (XPS is a PDF competitor provided by Microsoft). In fact, all zip archives containing Xml/Html/Text files can be merged with OpenTBS.
What is special to OpenTBS:
Design your templates directly with OpenOffice or MS Office.
No exe file needed to merge documents.
No temporary files needed to merge documents.
Output directly as an http download, a new file on the disk, or as a string (for file attachment for example).
Works with both PHP 4 and PHP 5.
No PHP extension is required (If the Zlib extension is enabled it becomes easier to use templates, see more detail below)
You should know Template Engines and more specifically TinyButStrong to use OpenTBS.
I just found this project, which is described a.t.m as a learning project.
Is there a more serious, open source Bitcoin exchange? I'm aware exchanging BTC for fiat money can be quite complex, and might not fit an open source model, but an exchange specializing in crypto-currencies shouldn't be that complicated to setup, so I think there is room for an open source one.
There are currently two registry settings required to be added on the Windows 7 client prior to joining a Samba Domain. These are:
HKLMSystemCCSServicesLanmanWorkstationParameters
DWORD DomainCompatibilityMode = 1
DWORD DNSNameResolutionRequired = 0
Samba also ships with a registry patchfile that users can apply directly. The patchfile can be found in recent Samba sourcecode: $SOURCE/docs-xml/registry/Win7_Samba3DomainMember.reg or in Samba Bugzilla here: https://bugzilla.samba.org/attachment.cgi?id=4988&action=view
Make sure to either reboot Windows 7 or restart the LanmanWorkstation service after setting these entries.
Do not edit any other registry parameters (NETLOGON) that have been seen in the wild. If you have already modified your Windows 7 registry, please make sure to reset the keys to their default values.
If you have changed the NETLOGON Parameters, make sure and turn them back to '1' as shown below:
HKLMSystemCCSServicesNetlogonParameters
DWORD RequireSignOrSeal = 1
DWORD RequireStrongKey = 1A recent Jon Carroll column got me thinking about Making and Fixing.
This was the passage that got me started:
... I took it to Dave up at the repair place. "You need a new battery," he said. Looked like a fine battery to me, but what do I know? I had a second opinion from the guy who wanted to sell me a battery. What could go wrong?
I brooded about this on the way. I realized how much we are at the mercy of the repair people in our lives, and how much we do not know about, well, most things.A thread on the Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list last month asked about how to find out what processes are making outgoing network connectsion on a Linux machine. It referenced Ubuntu bug 820895: Log File Viewer does not log "Process Name", which is specific to Ubuntu's iptables logging of apps that are already blocked in iptables ... but the question goes deeper.
Several years ago, my job required me to use a program -- never mind which one -- from a prominent closed-source company. This program was doing various annoying things in addition to its primary task -- operations that got around the window manager and left artifacts all over my screen, operations that potentially opened files other than the ones I asked it to open -- but in addition, I noticed that when I ran the program, the lights on the DSL modem started going crazy. It looked like the program was making network connections, when it had no reason to do that. Was it really doing that?
Here is a copy of the License agreement that I received after I registered to MSDNAA ELMS. I got the keys for so called famous M$ products. Lets have a review of it shall we?
The Peruvian government and Microsoft signed an agreement to use Windows XP and Office, as well as other educational resources in the laptops as part of an OLPC pilot program, minister of education José Chang announced last week (18 September).
The move makes Peru the first country worldwide to test the change in the operating system of the OLPC devices.
Chang justified the change from Linux to Windows by saying public school students in Peru "need to use the most modern tools with the most global use".

Libregamewiki is a wiki of free games and related topics started by Han Dao.
Lately there has been quite some debate about “free services” and what they mean to their users. A lot of it started with the excellent article “Don’t be a free user” by Maciej Ceglowski which described a few unpleasant truths.

SOGo Users,
This is a follow up on from this thread.
'[SOGo] Why not move from Funambol to Z-Push? Many features will be obtained.', http://www.mail-archive.com/ users@sogo.nu/msg08451.html
even farther from this reply, http://www.mail-archive.com/ users@sogo.nu/msg08828.html, on the same suject.
I am pleased to announce sogosync, It is an unmodified Z-Push from svn upstream (1.5.x branch) with caldav and cardav backend.
So far it is a read-only carddav and caldav and support multiple addressbook and calendar.
I have also made the configuration easier with preconfigure file working against http://sogo-demo.inverse.ca.
'public' addressbook are skip as they are provide by LDAP Z-push backend.
Email (IMAP) and GAL (Global Address List) support are provide by standard Z-push backend.
It has been tested on iOS 5.0.1.
It is Open Source software released under AGPLv3 and host on Github.com.
Please feel free to feedback, contribute to the code, sponsor or donate.
